Drugstore Dupes: Too Faced Chocolate Bar VS NYX Adorable

Hello Everybody! Today I wanted to talk a little bit about my experiences with the TooFaced Chocolate Bar, and the NYX Adorable Palette. As you know, I'm always on the lookout for drugstore dupes, and when I saw the Adorable palette, I had a sneaky suspicion that the colorway would match up with my favorite high-end palette.

Of course, the Adorable Palette only offers six shades, while the Chocolate Bar comes in sixteen. To its credit, however, the Adorable palette's shades pack a lot of punch, condensing the overall colorway into a pocket-sized palette.

I'll be honest; I wasn't too optimistic. They look very different in the pans, and I had serious doubts about NYX being able to compare to sweet-smelling, candy-cover, willy wonka fantasy that is the Chocolate Bar, but I went ahead and matched up the eyeshadows with their closest partners. Note that the NYX palette doesn't offer names like the Chocolate Bar. so I labelled them accordingly:

Unfortunately, #5 and #6 of Adorable do not have companions in the Chocolate Bar. The pink (#5) is warmer than the Chocolate Bar's pink, and the Chocolate Bar does not have a cool, bright white shade like #6. That being said, the pigmentation of both of these shadows is decent. The pink holds up as well as the browns in Adorable, while the white has to be built up, unless you want it for a highlighter shade.

But onto the dupes! I managed to match #1-4 in the Adorable palette with some of my favorite and most-used shades in the Chocolate Bar. #1 is a dark, matte brown like Triple Fudge, #2 is a creamy, matte light brown like Milk Chocolate, #3 is a light, matte beige like White Chocolate, while #4 is a dark brown with subtle shimmer like Haute Chocolate.

I did the swatch test with a brush, over some sheer E.l.F primer. Unfortunately, #3 and White Chocolate are nearly the same color as my skin (and the primer), so they did not show up on camera, though they were as close in color as the other pairs. The results?

Pretty darn close, if I do say so myself! While there is a subtle difference between each correlating shadow, I found that the actual quality of the shadows, and way they applied, were virtually identical.

Final Verdict: While the Chocolate Bar trumps Adorable in packaging and variety (and smell, but that's more of an extra perk than a central quality), both have shadows of comparable quality. The NYX Adorable Palette is also $7.49 at most drugstores, while the Chocolate Bar comes in at $49.
So, if you're after the Chocolate Bar's general colorway, but don't want to break the bank, NYX's Adorable palette is the perfect choice!
